….“We wanted the upgrade to be something that would attract attention to the location, distance it somewhat from its past use, and conform to contemporary expectations of a first class retail location. We also wanted to do all this within a fairly limited budget.
John and Jennifer met this challenge in a number of ways.
They understood that the building was tired and needed something special to bring it to life. The most obvious suggestion that they made in this regard was to propose the addition of a new two-story decorative tower, to which they then added a simple painting of the building, installation of specialty lighting, and installation of staggered awnings. The effect was tasteful and dramatic, and the cost was within budget. The tower has become a kind of signature detail of the building and the building as a whole now had the feel of a new, modern retail location, which is exactly what the owner wanted.
Another way in which studio J2 excelled on the project was to act promptly. Because we wanted to beat the winter season, we needed plans and specifications within a matter of just two months. John and Jennifer met the deadline. Also, John and Jennifer were extremely pleasant to work with. This was especially remarkable in light of the pressure to meet the deadline. They accepted the owner’s initial direction, accommodated suggestions along the way, and dealt easily with the various personalities involved. And, finally, they were technically very competent, producing a design that allowed the contractor to carry out the project in an efficient, cost effective manner.
With thirty years of property management experience, I feel I have the credentials to make a recommendation for an architectural firm. Having worked now with studio J2 on the Medford Street project, I am pleased to be able to provide it with a strong positive recommendation. In similar circumstances, I would use John and Jennifer of studio J2 again and I would recommend their firm to any property owner seeking high quality architectural services.”
